things to do around ocean Isle
Ocean Isle Beach is one of the southernmost barrier islands in North Carolina. Home to only 525 yearly residents, the island has maintained a quaint "beachy" vibe, perfect for the relaxing liesurly vacation get-away. The white sandy beach, stretching for 7 miles along the Atlantic coast provides a wonderful place for families to be together, play in the waves and build the ultimate sand castle without the distraction and crowds like the more populated tourist spots. If that's your thing once in a while though, Myrtle beach is just an hour drive away. Drive over the intra-coastal to find different style attractions such as golf, bowling or zip lining or stay on the island and try your hand at activities such as fishing, kayaking or paddle-boarding.
Fishing
There are many great fishing spots on Ocean Isle. The intra-coastal waterway allows boats, jet-skis and kayakers. The pier is a great way to fish the ocean. Take your net to the waves and see what you can pull in while standing ankle deep in the surf as your family plays around or watches intensely to see what you catch.
Shopping
Ocean Isle is small so you wont find big city shopping on the island, but, there are plenty of island shops and local treats to be had. The farmers market is a great place to stroll for gifts made by local artisans. Vendors with Italian ice carts walk the beach provide a special treat after playing in the sun.
beaches
The beaches of Ocean Isle are beautiful and quiet. Walk to find sea shells, fly a kite, surf the waves or build a castle, there is plenty of variety for all members of the family. On Sunday mornings in the summer months, there is a non-denominational church service held beachside down by the pier.
STAR GAZING
Off the deck, down by the ocean or through the telescope at the planetarium every 3rd Wednesday of the month, the stars of Ocean Isle beach won't disappoint. Set your rocking chair out on the top level deck of Beachside Blessing and enjoy the ocean sounds as you pick out some of your favorite constellations. There are lots of great star gazing apps available if you really want to impress the kids.
Spot the turtles
Ocean Isle is a prime spot for sea turtles to lay their eggs. Walk up and down the beach in August and you are sure to find a nest that is just about to hatch, giving you an experience you may never see again. Talk to the turtle volunteers to learn lot of interesting facts about these magnificent creatures.
